Cam-A-Lot Feedlot
Location - The County of Lamont, SE 7-56-186W4M
Project Description
Cam-A-Lot Inc. retained Sameng Inc. to evaluate the viability of current water sources at a proposed cattle feedlot for 10 000 heads in the County of Lamont. To this end Sameng Inc. carried out a comprehensive study to determine the availability of stream flows at the project site and to determine the adequacy of the existing dug outs to store water for worst dry periods. In order to increase sustainable water levels, Sameng Inc. designed diversion structures and channels to withdraw water from the creek while at the same time allowing for riparian flows for fisheries concerns downstream.
Services Provided by Sameng Inc. :
Hydrologic study of the availability of stream flow in the project site. This included determining the daily mean, monthly mean and median flows at the dugout site.
Data collection and information were obtained from the County of Lamont, Alberta Water Resources, Fish and Wildlife, Water Survey of Canada and Walker Consulting Group. The obtained information and hydrologic data were utilized to perform hydrologic analysis and to design the water withdrawal system.
Tessman analysis to determine the theoretical amount of flow that has to be released for fisheries concerns downstream.
Designed structures and channels to divert water into the ponds (dugouts) and at the same time allow riparian flows downstream.
Designed water storage ponds and withdrawal system.
Capacity analysis of dugouts to supply water during both normal wet and dry years.
Developed plan for alternative arrangement for water supply for consecutive dry years.
Determined the impact of water withdrawal in the downstream locations.
Prepared report and drawings necessary for submission to Alberta Environmental Protection (water resources).
